August and September were two months filled with both trials
and blessings.
I guess we’ll tell you about the trials first.
Cindy fell and injured her hand and I began developing
chest pains. Upon the advice of our doctor, we hurriedly
put together a trip to Thailand. The quality of medical
care is much higher there than here in Cambodia. “Quality
medical care” and “Cambodia” are two
concepts that don’t fit together. Upon our flight
arrival in Bangkok, we took a taxi to the hotel and then
on the hospital. I underwent a complete heart exam including
exercise stress test. Cindy had
x-rays done and also had her hearing checked. Cindy’s hand is sprained,
not broken. Her hearing is going to require her to begin
wearing a hearing aid. Hearing loss is an inherited condition
that runs in her family. She is also having some problems
with vertigo. My heart is OK. The test revealed nothing
wrong with the heart, but the chest pains were caused
by an acid reflux condition and he asked me to lay off
the spicy stuff. Asking a guy from Texas to lay off the
hot sauce is like asking a German to lay off the pork.
I eat my eggs with Tabasco sauce.
These months were also filled with blessings. We took
approximately 40 youth to their first church camp. Souls
were saved and Christian youth were encouraged to see that
there are many other Khmer Christian young people who also
stand for Jesus Christ.
In our church, ten
souls were saved in these months, and seven were baptized.
Two women and five young men followed
their Lord’s example by submitting to water baptism.
Praise the Lord for these spiritual victories!
In September our youth
participated in the annual Cambodia Baptist Youth Sportsfest.
Our youth brought home a trophy
this year. The girls were so happy to bring home first
place in girls’ volleyball.
Please remember to pray for our ministry:
1. Capitol City Baptist Church, Prek Pra Village, Phnom
Penh
2. Pray for the church workers: Suong Seyhar, Kin Sokhanny
and the Bible students who assist us in the work of the
ministry.
3. New church to be started in Prey Veng province in January.
This is near the border with Vietnam, so please pray about
this new work. We will go look for a building to rent in
a few months.
4. Manna Worldwide Feeding Center: At the Capitol City
Baptist Church, we are feeding 42 children twice a day,
five days a week.
5. Manna Worldwide
Orphanage: We care for orphan children and our desire
is to make this a place where
50 children
can find a home where the love of Christ abounds.
Right now we are caring for eight children. There
is not
a week that goes by that we don’t say “no” because
we simply don’t have the funds to help more
children. This ministry needs your prayers. James
1 tells us
that pure religion is to take care of widows and
orphans.
