Here in
Cambodia, we were blessed to be able to celebrate this
holiday with some missionary friends.
Yes, we can get a turkey in Cambodia, but they are expensive.
But when three missionary families split up the cost, it's
not so bad. This will probably shock you but a turkey in
Cambodia cost $60 U.S. Each family pays $20 and lo, and
behold, turkey for Thanksgiving! Well, the turkey has
disappeared, there's no more pumpkin pie, and the Cowboys
were soundly
whipped by the Miami Dolphins! If you love all three like
I do, it's a bit sad. I'm still carrying around the turkey
and the pie, but the Cowboys' loss is a fading memory already.
What should not fade in our memories is that every day
is Thanksgiving Day for the child of God. Everyday should
be a day of counting our blessings and praising and thanking
God for who He is and for what He's done in our lives!
Today is December 1. We took off this morning along the
Mekong river for what was supposed to be a survey trip
to Prey Veng province. Prey Veng province borders Vietnam
and has the third largest population among the provinces
of Cambodia with 946,000 people. This is a very needy place.
It's our objective to plant a new church in Prey Veng province.
The roads were impassable today and we had to turn around.
We are in need of a stronger and more durable 4 wheel drive
vehicle than the cheap, inexpensive Korean KIA model we
now have. We would like to raise at least $10,000 to purchase
a used Toyota Landcruiser or Mitsubishi Pajero 4 wheel
drive. It is essential in reaching the more remote and
difficult areas. Please join with us in prayer about this
need. We were able, in spite of the setback, to distribute
some gospel tracts. There was a van load of people going
to Phnom Penh from some village near the border. Among
the travelers was an old Buddhist monk. We gave them tracts
and they were all reading them as we departed. Pray for
souls here in Cambodia!
A lady in our church
that we simply call "Grandmother," is
having some problems with her children. Her children are
in their thirties or forties and have been utilizing the
services of a soothsayer. They have been ill for some time
and having lots of problems, so they sought the advice
of the soothsayer. The demon-possessed soothsayer told
them to tell "Grandmother" that it is her fault
that everyone is sick and bad things are happening because
she trusted Christ, got baptized, and is going to church.
She is very old and depends on her children for food and
care. The church has been taking her food and now, because
her children are angry with her, she refuses our food and
won't come to church. Please pray for "Grandmother" and
for her children. Pray for her children to get saved. The
spiritual blindness is very evident here and spiritual
warfare against the powers of darkness is constant. The
battle never ceases to rage. Pray for us! God bless you!
