Broken bodies, broken
cars, and broken motorcycles:
That’s the theme
for this update. Several years ago, I broke my ankle
in Tyler, Texas, and tore the ligaments in my left ankle.
It has been giving me problems again. So, I am keeping
it elevated at night while I try to sleep. The swelling
goes down because it’s been elevated, and then
I wrap it in the morning before I begin my day. I probably
need to get an X-ray. Broken cars: Well, our vehicle
is a Korean model, a KIA Sportage. We’ve had
nothing but trouble with it. We are just trying to
keep it together
for three more months, then sell it before we return
for furlough. Broken motorcycles: We have a older
Honda AX-1 250 cc dirt bike that we use to travel
to Prey Veng
for the ministry out there. We have spent about $50-$100
a month repairing it every month for the past three
months. We desperately need to buy a small car for
Seyhar and
Sokhany, and our church workers to use to go back
and forth from Phnom Penh to Prey Veng. We will be taking a seven month furlough beginning this
September. We would love to come visit your church and
report on what God is doing here in Cambodia. If you would
like to schedule us to be in your church, please email
me so that we can work out an acceptable date.
We have some needs both here in Cambodia and stateside.
We are trying to raise funds to purchase property for the
church in Phnom Penh. We are trying to raise about $45,000
for this project. Further, we are applying to the Cambodian
government as an approved NGO (Non-Government Organization).
Our orphanage would be approved by the Cambodian government
and we would be able to accomplish more in this ministry
by having this legal standing. We will need about $2,000
for the legal fees to complete this process.
We are also trying
to raise money for airfare to return for furlough. We
are needing to raise about $6,000 for
the family’s roundtrip tickets. We will have saved
up about half of that by the beginning of August. This
means I need to come up with an additional $3,000.
Upon arrival in the
states, we’ll need transportation
for our family to travel around the U.S. to report to our
supporting churches and make missionary presentations to
new churches. If you know of someone who has a vehicle
that they would rent to us or sell to us “cheap” we’d
appreciate your help. We’ll only need the vehicle
for seven months. We were truly blessed on deputation when
an individual bought a Chevy Suburban and then allowed
us to use it for the entire year and a half of deputation
travel.
Those are the most immediate and pressing financial needs
at the moment.
Before I go, we want
to give you a praise report from our Prey Veng church.
We have decided to name the church
Calvary Bible Baptist Church. We now have 11 people coming
to hear the gospel and fully anticipate a full house within
months. Pray for this work. It is in a very poor area of
Cambodia near the border with Vietnam. The ministry there
has many needs. We need set up expenses for things such
as Bibles, hymnbooks, white marker boards, chairs, tables,
desk, a computer, printer, bicycles, office supplies, cooking
utensils, pots, pans, dishes, etc. If you would like to
help with these things, we’d appreciate your help.
Concerning our Manna Orphanage and Manna Center for Feeding
Children, God is blessing this ministry in building the
lives of our people and opening doors to preach the gospel.
Because of lack of essential funds, we are constantly turning
away orphans who need our help. Please pray for the orphans
of Cambodia. They number in the tens of thousands, maybe
a hundred thousand now.
