March 2004 REPORT

We are four months into the HOT and DRY season here

in Cambodia. There has been no rain since November and temperatures now are hitting 95 to 100 degrees on a regular basis. Enjoy the cool spring weather if that’s what you have where you are! Monsoon season will start in June, but April, the hottest month, lies just ahead.

The church is doing well here and we have visitors every Sunday. During the week we have folks in our church conducting small group Bible studies in the surrounding village and community. These are going well and producing fruit in the lives of new believers. Pray for those who have not yet been responsive to the gospel that God’s Holy Spirit would touch their hearts and convict them of sin. There are several that are “almost persuaded.”

The new church plant in Prey Veng is fully underway. Another motorcycle was purchased to be able to make the journey to this border province. It is about two hours journey from here by motorcycle as you head towards the border with Vietnam. The Buddhist “powers that be” have issued a government directive prohibiting us from spreading the gospel outside the walls of the place where the church meets. This does not slow us down because God opens doors for us to give out the gospel in many ways and in many places. Our folks are reaching their family and friends first and the circle is ever-widening. Our Cambodian brethren are realizing their duty to be a church that is self-supporting, self-propagating, and self-governing. They are giving to the work of church planting each Sunday as they give to missions. These are poor people, most making less than $30 a month! Praise the Lord for their willing hearts to learn and follow God’s plan for the church.

We would like to help these poor believers have a property of their own for church. We have found a large property just two minutes walking distance from our current location. It has two small houses. It does need an outdoor “tabernacle” type shelter built under which to hold the church services. The property costs $35,000. Please pray about this need. Our lease is expiring at our current location in less than a year and we need to be prepared to relocate. The “tabernacle” structure will cost about $5,000 to $10,000 to build. $40,000 to $45,000 should do the job. Some Christian businessmen are willing to provide “matching funds” for whatever amount we raise! If we can raise $22,500, they will match that with another $22,500. Please pray about this urgent need!

Thank you for praying and for supporting this work!
