Dear Friends,
Janice and I send you greetings from Chesapeake, Virginia.
Since we arrived in the States the last full week of January, we have
been in several of our churches, got some medical and dental work done,
and visited with three of our children. Although we have not enjoyed
the weather here - cold, really cold, we have enjoyed being with our
churches. You folks have been so gracious to us over the years, and
we do enjoy being able to spend some time with you. The news from Jakarta, as far as we know, is good. At least there
isn't any bad news that we know about! When we left Jakarta, our national
fellowship of Independent Baptists was in progress. There were a good
group of pastors and church workers that attended the meeting in Jakarta.
Janice and I were able to attend the first day of meetings, and we
enjoyed seeing many pastors that had come from all over Indonesia to
take part in the meetings. Also, right before we left, Janice was able
to help two young families at Pastor Yohanes' church adopt Micheal
and Christian. Pray the Lord will bless these young families as they
raise these precious babies.
While I am in the States, I am asking my churches to help Pastor Yusuf
and his folks in Cibubur with a church bulding. The work in Cibubur
was originally started by Don and Roni Hampton, our good friends and
fellow BBFI missionaries. They did a good job of winning and gathering
a good group of people together. When the the Hamptons left the field,
Pastor Yusuf really wanted me to come and work with him, giving my
major attention to his work. I have never been able to give the attention
to the work that it really needs. Over the years, I have helped visit
with Pastor Yusuf, and I have tried to preach for him at least once
every other month. The work has been up and down. Over the years, we
have reached several new families, but kept only a few. However, the
basic core of folks, the Sunday school and Pastor Yusuf have been rock
solid over the years. During this time the church has met in Pastor
Yusuf's house. Over the past few years, the house situation has become
more difficult as Pastor Yusuf has helped several of the Bible school
students by allowing them to live in his house. Truthfully, the house
is in need of major repairs, and I have wanted to do something for
the last year to help with the situation. About six months ago, Pastor
Yusuf lead his folks to start a special building fund to provide a
building for the church. Within the last six months the church members
have given about two million rupiah ($220) into the fund. I would like
to help Pastor Yusuf and his folks by providing $10,000 for the building
project. This amount will not complete the project, but I am confident
that with the help, Pastor Yusuf and his folks will raise the remaining
amount to complete the project. Would you please consider giving an
offering? Please mark your offering - Cibubur building. A couple of
churches have already helped. Thank you so much.
This week, Janice and I will be heading to Florida to attend the BBFI
meeting there. The rest of February, we will be in the Atlantic Coast
states. In March and April, we will be in California. We plan to return
to Jakarta, via Bulgaria, the first of May. If you would like to contact
us we do have a cell phone (757-617-7346).
For your faithful prayers, we are truly thankful.
In Christ,
